Alison Weir founder of “If Americans Knew” (www.ifamericansknew.org) will present information about American press coverage of the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Her presentation is fascinating and very surprising so do not miss it! Dinner is at 6:30 and the presentation should be over by 9:00pm.

Ambassador Phil Wilcox
Ambassador Phil Wilcox, President of the Foundation for Middle East Peace (www.fmep.org), will be presenting his views on the recent elections and help us learn what we can do to promote peace in the region. Ambassador Wilcox a career foreign service officer, served as Chief of Mission and U.S. Consul General in Jerusalem and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs at the State Department. While at the State Department, Amb. Wilcox also served as Director of Israeli and Arab-Israeli Affairs, and Ambassador at Large and Coordinator of Counter Terrorism.

Mitchell Plitnick of  Jewish Voice for Peace (www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org) and a yet unnamed conservative speaker will be exchanging their views on the legacy of Arial Sharon. The debate should be revealing as two very different speakers express their views on the best approach for peace in the region.  The presentation at the Kraus Family Home will include dinner 6:30. The presentation should be finished by 9:00pm. While not required, if you would like to bring a food item, please call Su at 760-751-2134. RSVP is appreciated but not required. February 15

Breaking the Silence
Noam Chayut and Avichay Sharon are former soldiers in the Israeli Defense Force and founders of “Breaking the Silence”. These young men will be on tour in the U.S. and have agreed to share their photographs and experiences on the front line of the occupation.  This graphic and powerful presentation has special relevance to any of us asked to occupy a foreign land and control a hostile civilian population.

Father Ruggere is the Director of the Office for the Missions for the San Diego Diocese of the Catholic Church. He has lived in the Middle East and will be presenting the Vatican’s position regarding peace in the Israel/Palestine. A retired Board member of Churches for Middle East Peace, Father Ruggere is a tireless worker for peace.

Imam Danny Bundakji
Muslim Imam Haitham (Danny) Bundakji is the spiritual leader of 1200 Muslim families and is a frequent leader of peace initiatives in Israel facilitating reconciliation between religious and civic leaders. Born in Palestine but now living in California, Imam Bundakji will describe his vision for peace in the Middle East. He will also answer many questions for us about Islam. Bring your friends to this talk.

Miko Peled
Miko was born in West Jerusalem in 1961. He is an army veteran and now is professional martial arts instructor. He is actively involved in Israeli/Palestinian dialog both here and in Israel. His father was General Matti Peled who served in the Hagganah and the IDF. His mother is Zika Katsnelson-Peled, daughter of Dr. Avraham Katsnelson who served on the Pre-State Zionist National Council (the de-facto pre state government) and was a signor on the Israeli Declaration of Independence. In 1997, his sister Nurit lost her daughter Smadar Elhanan, 13 in a suicide bombing in Jerusalem.

Imam Wali Fardan
Wali Fardan is an Islamic Cleric from a mosque in San Diego. Wali will be making a short presentation dispelling many common misconceptions about the Qur’an (Koran) and the Muslim faith. He will also be available to answer questions.

Bishop Samir Kafity
Bishop Kafity, retired Anglican Bishop of the Jerusalem Diocese, is Palestinian with Israeli citizenship and is now an American citizen. Bishop Kafity was ordained a priest in 1957 and a Bishop in 1982. He was twelfth Diocesan Bishop in Jerusalem and the Middle East from 1984-1998 and President Bishop and Primate to Jerusalem and the Middle East from 1986-1997. He will provide his personal reflections as an Arab–American Christian on what is required for peace in Jerusalem and an interfaith existence.

Teddy Katz
Teddy Katz is an Israeli Jew and peace activist. He has been a member of kibbutz Magal since 1962 and has worked for the Israeli government encouraging Mexican Jews to emigrate to Israel. His controversial M.A. Thesis in History from Haifa University implicated the Israeli army in a massacre at a Palestinian village in 1948. Mr. Katz will outline his vision for peace in the region.

Deanna Armbruster
Deanna Armbruster is Executive Director of Friends of Oasis for Peace. Nominated 5 times for a Nobel Peace Prize, Oasis for Peace is a unique village in Israel established jointly by Jews and Palestinian Arabs with Israeli citizenship. Residents live and work side by side promoting peace, equality and understanding. In addition to its Primary and Secondary schools, the organization also has a world renowned School for Peace.
